Volkswagen Scirocco GT24

We’re convinced the new Volkswagen Scirocco will be a success and it looks like the German company is currently working on a more powerful version of the car, to please those wanting more power, not just good looks. The model will most likely weat the “R20T” name tag, coming from the 2.0 liter turbo engine which will power the car, the same engine that is currently offered for the Audi S3. The engine delivers 245 hp and will take the car from stand to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 6 seconds, while the top speed will be electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). Rumors say that the Scirocco R20T will be inspired by the GT24 race car and the car is expected to debut early in 2010, with UK pricing starting at around £25,000 ($38,500).

VW Scirocco Need for Speed Undercover

EA Games’ “Need for Speed” is probably one of the most popular car video games ever, and its latest installment, Need for Speed Undercover features a bunch of extra cool cars. We’ve already written about the new Nissan 370Z showing up in the game, and this time we’re gonna talk about a special version of the Volkswagen Scirocco, created for the game. But what’s really cool about this car is that there’s also a real version, built by VW Individual, under the supervision of Vau-Max.de founder, Thomas Ebeling.

Starting from a 200 hp 2.0 TSI model, the team created a new body kit, with new front apron, rear bumper, side skirts, Folienbeklebung (side, below the character line, tailgate and rear bumper and rear lights and front bumper) disc tint from B-pillar, EA logo on the bonnet, fuel and left C-pillar. They’ve also made some mechanical upgrades, like new KW-Thread suspension Variant 1 kit, added 345mm front brake discs from the Golf R32, and also added new 19 inch wheels.

The interior features leather all over the place, headrests EA logo laser etched on leather, aluminum steering wheel with “Need for Speed Undercover” logo and a new impressive entertainment system.

Volkswagen Scirocco Arizona

We saw the new VW Scirocco live at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but so far we didn’t get the chance to see more photos of the car hitting the streets. But here are a couple of photos taken by one of our readers, Peder, who spotted a white Scirocco somewhere near Chandler, Arizona. He’s a lucky guy, because he lives close to the VW and Nissan test facilities near Maricopa, Arizona so he got the chance to see quite a few Nissan/Infinity and VW cars under development. We liked the car at Geneva and we’re sure it looks even better on the street. Thanks a lot Peder!

Geneva 2008: Volkswagen Scirocco makes world debut

VW Scirocco at Geneva Motor Show

One of the most expected events from this year’s Geneva Motor Show was, without any doubt, the world debut of the new Volkswagen Scirocco, 34 years after the first one debuted at the same Swiss auto show. The idea behind the Scirocco concept is that VW will offer an affordable sports car (in Germany pricing will start at 21,750 Euros), which can also be used in day-by-day activities.

Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen Group’s Chairman of the Board of Management commented: “What we have done with the Scirocco is to put the kind of sports car in our showrooms that people have dreamed of owning. A dream that a good deal of motorists – in spite of all the high-end engineering we have integrated – can actually afford.”

The Scirocco will be offered with the following powerplants:
* Three petrol engines:
- 122 hp TSI - 0-100 km/h in 9.7 sec - 200 km/h - 6.1 liters / 100 km
- 160 hp TSI - 0-100 km/h in 8.0 sec - 217 km/h - 6.5 liters / 100 km
- 200 hp TSI - 0-100 km/h in 7.2 sec - 235 km/h - 7.6 liters / 100 km
* One diesel engine:
- 140 hp TDI - 0-100 km/h in 9.3 sec - 207 km/h - 5.4 liters / 100 km
