Knight Rider 2008

Yesterday, NBC announced that they are pleased with Knight Rider and gave the series greenlight for serios production, starting this fall. Though the pilot episode received strong ratings, when it was aired on February 17, 2008, the series’ fans reaction was not that great, many considering the actors awful, plus they saw the pilot as a big Ford commercial.

Just a reminder, Justin Bruening stars as Michael Knight’s son, Mike Traceur and Val Kilmer is KITT’s voice. NBC said that it’s possible that the “Knight Rider” series will be given a Friday night timeslot, but things might change before the show will start.

Ford Shebly GT500KR Mustang

Ford recently announced that, because of the high demand, besides the 1,000 2009 Shelby GT500KR Mustangs already planned, an additional 751 units will be produced. Of those 751 car, 571 will be available in the US while the rest of the cars will be sold in the countries that didn’t get 2008 models. “The response to this car has been overwhelming, so I’m glad we can share it with more Mustang enthusiasts,” said Carroll Shelby. “This car is really special to me and demonstrates that when Shelby Automobiles gets together with Ford SVT and Ford Racing, we can deliver a Mustang that will compete with the best in the world.”

The 2009 Shelby GT500KR features a 540 hp 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine with a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack, short-throw shifter and unique suspension tuning, while the exterior features unique carbon composite hood, wheels, and unique striping.

The GT500 is built at AutoAlliance International Inc., in Flat Rock, Michigan and from there, the cars are shipped to the Shelby Automobile facility in Las Vegas, where a Ford Racing Performance Pack, exhaust system and short-throw shifter are installed. Ford said that the first 2009 Shelby GT500KR Mustangs will be delivered this spring.

KITT Shelbys to be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson event

KITT Barrett-Jackson Auction

At the 6th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event which will take place on March 29 in West Palm Beach, Florida, Ford will put up for auction two of the actual KITT Ford Shelby Mustangs used in NBC’s “Knight Rider” pilot. The cars sold will be the “Super KITT” and the “Attack Mode KITT”, both based on black Mustangs GT with 4.6 Liter V8, each one having a lot of upgrades.

Steve Davis, president of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company said: “”The Barrett-Jackson Automotive lifestyle event in Palm Beach always attracts many celebrities, and this year someone will take home two genuine TV stars […] This is a once in a lifetime chance to own a pair of celebrity cars with extraordinary star power, while also supporting a worthy charity. Imagine going to the office or dropping your kid off at school in KITT. Ford and Barrett-Jackson are offering a chance to live the ‘Knight Rider’ experience every day.”

The bad news is that only one person will enjoy these fine cars, because the KITTs will be sold in pair and not separately. All the benfits will go to the Salute to Education program, which raised more than $7 million for high school students’ scholarships for college.

KITT Knight Rider Shelby GT500KR

After a few weeks ago we told you what the next K.I.T.T. from the upcoming TV movie “Knight Rider” will be, now we have official confirmation from NBC, it’s going to be a Shelby GT500KR. And we also have a bunch of official, high-resolution photos. Honestly, I was hoping that the info we got back then would be just a rumor, but it’s true. As I said, I don’t think this is the best replacement for the Pontiac Firebird, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if this will turn out to be a good decision.

View more high-res photos after the jump.
Later edit: We’ve also got a video of the car from the presentation, thanks to Jalopnik.
