The new Renault Megane officially unveiled

New Renault Megane

After last week a set of photos leaked on the internet, today we have the official announcement of the new Renault Megane. We can see that the car’s design follows the Laguna III’s styling and, though the car is larger than the current generation Megane, it’s 8 kgs lighter. Under the hood, Renault will offer the new Megane with a range of petrol and diesel engines. Diesel powerplants range from 85 to 150 hp, while the petrol engine offer will include the 1.6 16V engine (available with 100 and 110 hp power output), the 140 hp 2.0 liter and the 180 hp TCe. Depending on the market, Renault will offer five or six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Also, Renault tried to make the Megane more environmental friendly, by adding biofuel-compatible engines (bioethanol and biodiesel) and by making 12 percent of the plastics (about 22kg) sourced from recycling.

The interior comes equipped with a lot of new features, such as combined analogue/digital instruments incorporating a new, easier to read colour-coded cruise control/speed limiter interface, hands-free
entry and ignition, automatic locking as the driver walks away from the car, a Carminat Bluetooth® DVD navigation system and a custom-developed audio system (3D Sound by Arkamys).

The new Renault Megane will go on sale in November 2008 and Renault says that by 2010, the Mégane family will include six different models, each one with a distinct personality.

New Renault Megane Leaked Photos

With only a month left until its Paris Motor Show debut, the secret around the next generation Renault Megane has been unveiled. A full set of leaked photos was published today by Spanish website km77 and we can get a good look of the Megane. Its design was inspired by the Megane Coupe Concept unveiled this spring at Geneva and by the new Laguna. Not very much info available so far, except that the Peugeot 308, Fiat Bravo and Golf VI competitor will also get a three-door, coupe, estate and convertible version. Stay tuned, as we’ll probably get a press release from Renault anytime soon.

Meanwhile, check out the leaked photos after the jump. Read More: "Next generation Renault Megane photos leaked"

Renault Megane III spied

Renault Megane 3 Spy

The Renault design team outdoes itself each and every new generation of cars. You can clearly see that the future Megane III has been radically changed, in these spy shots caught in the USA on a filming site. The new design lines the Megane up with the new Laguna and Clio and it is built on the Quashquai platform competing in C segment with Peugeot 308, yet to come Golf VI, Ford Focus and so on. It will most likely be available as a 3 or 5 door hatchback, and later as a sedan, station wagon, coupe-cabrio and most likely as a cross-over. Furthermore it will be built in France as well as in its Turkish sister factory.

As a personal impression i am looking forward to the new Megane unveiling later this year (this autumn to be precise) at the Paris Motor Show as i believe that French designers are some of the best in the world and Renault has had its head-turning share of cars and all bets are that they’re not going to stop anytime soon.

Renault Megane Coupe Concept

Renault’s stand at this year’s Geneva Motor Show was on of the most impressive, with some great premieres, like the Renault Laguna Coupe Concept, the new Renault Koleos crossover and the new Twingo. But the star of their stand was definitely the Renault Megane Coupe Concept. The concept previews an upcoming Renault compact production coupe and it features an impressive fluid, sportier styling and new door-opening system which consists of two parts deploy ing in an independent movement and connected to the body structure through a carbon arm at the rear of the doors. Besides being spectacular, the system also allows easier access into the car.

As you’d expect from a concept car, the interior looks futuristic and is equipped with Renault’s Touch Design which features a central multimedia control coupled with a display divided into three zones. The central part displays journey-related info, like navigation, radio, music, video, Bluetooth® telephone, while the other two screens show images relayed by cameras incorporated in the exterior mirrors.

The Renault Mégane Coupé Concept is powered by a 200hp 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine which delivers 280Nm of torque at 2,600 rpm and peak power of 200hp at 5,800 rpm. Equipped with a manual six-speed gearbox, the concept goes from 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) in 7.2 seconds while having a fuel consumption of 6.5 litres/100km and producing 154g of CO2/km.
