2008 Renault Koleos

French car maker Renault is ready to bring out its first crossover, the production-ready Renault Koleos, which will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show, starting March 4. Actually, we’re not really sure if we can call this car French, as it was designed by Renault, developed by Nissan and produced by Renault Samsung Motors in Korea, so a really muti-national product. The Koleos is based on the Nissan X-Trail and it will be available with 4×4-I system which spreads torque to where it is most needed, so under normal driving conditions only the front wheels receive torque, but when grip decreases up to 50% of torque is directed to the rear wheels.

Renault Koleos will be available with two types of engines. The latest-generation 2.0 dCi Euro 4 diesel engine (M9R) is available in a choice of two power outputs, 150hp and 175hp. The engine, which is already available on the Renault Megane, Nissan’s Qashqai and New X-Trail and it features piezoelectric injectors, common-rail 1,600-bar fuel injection, a water-cooled variable-geometry turbo and a periodic regeneration particulate filter. The engine is available for either the 4×2 or 4×4 versions and mated with either a six-speed manual gearbox or automatic transmission. The 175 hp version of the 2.0 dCi engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The other engine which will power the Koleos is a 2.5 litre Euro 4 which develops 170hp and 226 Nm of torque. Depending on market, it will be available with a manual six-speed gearbox and/or continuously variable transmission (CVT).

On the interior, the Renault Koleos will feature all sorts of equipment, from the front and rear proximity parking sensors to the automatic parking brake. The Koleos will also come equipped with a Carminat Navigation and Communication system incorporating three functions: a GPS navigation system with 7-inch, 16/9 screen and DVD atlas, a radio and six-CD multichanger and controls for a hands-free Bluetooth telephone. For enhanced night-time vision, Renault Koleos is available with bi-Xenon headlamps and fixed bending lights. These additional lights illuminate the inside of corners, thereby permitting the driver to spot a possible hazard or obstacle much sooner.

We’ll report more on the Renault Koleos from the Geneva Motor Show, where we’ll be present starting March 4. Check out the full photo gallery after the jump.
