Seven-seat Nissan Qashqai to debut at London

Seven-seat Nissan Qasqai

This summer, the seven-seat version of the Nissan Qashqai will make its debut at the London Motor Show, which starts on July 23. This comes after the Qashqai was a huge success for Nissan, with more than 170,000 units sold so far (Nissan also had to re-arrange worldwide production to meet the demand for the crossover, as we’ve reported here).

The car looks pretty much like the current Qashqai, however, to make room for the extra seats, several adjustments had to be made such as lengthened roofline and re-profiled rear. The car’s wheelbase was extended by 135 mm, while the length and width went up by 211 mm and 38 mm respectively. Also, the overall weight increased by 100kg because of the extra size and seats.

The upcoming seven-seat Qashqai will be offered with four engine choices, a 115 hp 1.6-liter petrol with 160Nm, a 141 2.0 liter with 200Nm, a 106 hp 1.5 dCi with 240Nm and the top of the line 150 hp 2.0 dCi with 320Nm. 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions will be offered.

More photos of the seven-seat Nissan Qashqai after the jump.

Nissan Qashqai

Launched in Europe in March, at the end of November, Nissan sold its 100,000th European Qashqai. Because of its succes and the fact that the Sunderland plant wasn’t enough to cope with the European demand, Nissan had to increase the Qashqai production at the Kyoto plant in Japan. According to Nissan, the best selling markets where the UK (17,554 units), Russia (15,376 units) and Italy (10,746 units). Japanese sales are also going great, Nissan selling about 18,000 units since the Dualis (Qashqai’s Japanese name) went available, in May.

Nissan Dualis

Nissan launched the Dualis, their latest midsize crossover, in Japan. Known in Europe as Qashqai, the Dualis will be available with a DOHC 2.0-liter inline-4 engine that delivers 140 hp and with prices from $16,080 to $19,970.

Nissan hopes to sell about 24,000 Dualis crossovers in Japan (which is a small number, considering their target for Europe of 106,000 vehicles). The midsize crossover, which will be built in Europe and shipoped to Japan, will be launched in other markets, including Australia and South Africa, in the future.
