It turns out that being a highway patrol officer is not the safest job in the world. We’ve seen a lot of videos where cops get shot at, insulted and God knows what other stuff. This video shows an officer which, while pulling over a truck, proves to have some amazing reflexes and jump a out of the way a driver that lost control of his car. Pretty amazing stuff!

Carbon ‘E7’, the world’s first purpose-built law enforcement vehicle

Carbon Motors E7

To be honest, I’m surprised nobody thought about this before though, given the current economy, I don’t know if the project will be successful. What we’re talking about is the Carbon ‘E7′, the world’s first purpose-built law enforcement vehicle, developed by Carbon Motors. The E7 (which is only a temporary name), was created with the help of over 1,700 law enforcement professionals, representing all 50 US States, who gave their input to the Carbon Motors team, so that the vehicle could be fully equipped with a suite of purpose-built performance and safety features.

“The military has long used purpose-built vehicles to accomplish their unique missions. Fire engines were specifically designed to provide firefighters with water, aerial ladders or other equipment to assist them in rescue work. And even postal workers have purpose-built trucks for delivering mail. Law enforcement, by comparison, has had to settle for retail cars designed for ordinary passenger use with haphazardly and dangerously installed law enforcement equipment. The women and men who protect our communities deserve better. Carbon’s ‘E7’ will rectify this injustice” said William Santana Li, chairman and chief executive officer, Carbon Motors Corporation.

The vehicle will have features like an ergonomic cockpit inspired by jet fighters and helicopters, a high powered clean-diesel engine capable of running on biodiesel (40 percent improvement in fuel efficiency), integrated external and internal surveillance capabilities, radar, LoJack, an automatic license plate recognition system, radiation and biological threat detectors and 360 degree, high conspicuity built-in LED emergency lighting. In addition, the ‘E7’ will get Carbon’s On-board Rapid Command Architecture (ORCA) with a large touch-screen main display and a separate touch screen keyboard providing world-class data communication and human-machine interface.

You have to admit, this is a very interesting project and it really got our attention, so stay tuned, as we’ll let you know once we have more info. Meanwhile, check out more photos and a video after the jump. Read More: "Carbon ‘E7’, the world’s first purpose-built law enforcement vehicle"

150 Dodge Chargers for the Kuwaiti police

Dodge Charger Kuwaiti Police

The Kuwaiti Police sure have some troubles with all those rich guys running around in powerful cars evading their cars all the time, so they decided to order a new model of police cars, something sensitive like the Dodge Charger (!), and quite a few, only 150. Chrysler did go all the way to convince their Deputy Ministry of Interior, Musaed S. Al-Guwainem, who was taken to the central headquarters of Chrysler in Michigan, where a demonstration of a full police-spec Charger was given to him, convincing him that it was the right choice.

And it sure worked, the minister puttin immediately an order for 150 cars, and declaring that “Reflecting an image of strength and power is important for our law enforcement officials and the Dodge Charger portrays this image to the Kuwaiti people“. What better way to discourage the bad guys than chasing after them with a big american muscle car. After they are specially fitted with police accesories, the cars will be delivered and policemen from Kuwait will definitely be happy for them.

Dog dies because of stubborn policeman

Dog Dead Police

I love pets, especially dogs, so this story really made me sad and angry at the same time. Here’s what happened. Michael Gonzales and his girlfriend, from Texas, were really in a hurry to take their poodle, Missy, which was very sick, to the vet. However, they were clocked doing 100 mph and were pulled over by San Marcos police officer Paul Stephens who began writing Michael a ticket. Meanwhile, the dog was chocking on the backseat, but that didn’t impress the cop, who began talking about how driving at that speed puts people lives in danger.

Of course, we don’t agree with speeding on public roads but that doesn’t mean we are insensitive to situations like this. While the couple was almost begging the Stephens to let at least one of them drive with Missy to the vet, he replied “It’s a dog. You can get another one. Relax.” Unfortunately, all this arguing did not help the poodle at all, Missy dying right under their owners’ eyes. Police Chief Howard Williams agreed that Stephens’ behaviour was not one the most appropriate, but probably no measures will be taken against the stubborn cop.

Cops under attack!

For some reason we’re not aware of, the turkey on the video below is pretty pissed at that cop, who’s having a hard time getting out of his car. Not even the police siren can stop the angry turkey, all this to the amusement of the guys filming this. Anyways, it’s really funny to see that a cop that should fear no one is under attack by a…turkey. Enjoy!

Facebook helps police find stolen VW Beetle

Facebook Stolen Car

I’m sure most of you are familiar with all these social networking websites, such as Facebook, MySpace or Hi5. And if some of you consider hanging on these websites only a waste of time, well, it’s not really like that. Because, besides helping you make new friends, apparently you can use these sites for some other really useful stuff.

A Volkswagen Beetle has been stolen in March in Shrewsbury and, because the police was unable to locate tha car, the owner asked Facebook users to look out for the Beetle. And, surprisingly, it actually worked, because a woman contacted the police and said that she saw a VW Beetle matching the description in aa Telford car park.

A spokeman for West Mercia Police said that “the stolen vehicle has been recovered and the vehicle owner has been informed [..] This is a very unusual way of recovering a stolen vehicle but we would like to thank the eagle-eyed member of the public for her assistance. It’s another example of the community helping police to detect crime and we would urge any members of the public who see anything suspicious in the area in which they live to call us.”

I’m sure that Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook never thought his site would help people in such manner and who knows, maybe we’ll even get to see a new “Stolen Items” Facebook application. Would be cool, because with these sites having huge communities, I’m sure it would work.

Guy paints car like police cruiser, officials are ok with it

Ford Mustang Police

Did you know what are the two things you need to do in order to be allowed to paint your car like a police cruiser? Easy, all you have to do is own a car that isn’t in your local police car fleet and then not act like a policeman while driving it. Yup, that easy. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this to be like this.

Jesse Virgil wanted to paint his 2007 Ford Mustang to look like a police cruiser from the “Transformers” movie because Thomas, his 7 yo son is a really big fan of the movie. Virgil said: “My intent was to re-create the movie car. When I came back from Iraq, I tried to spoil him. I wasn’t the best dad before.” However, before starting working on it, he adressed the city’s police department and asked them if they’ll allow him to do that.

And they said that, as long as he doesn’t act like a cop while driving the car, everything’s ok. Of course, there are some differences between an actual police car and Virgil’s car. For example, the “To protect and serve” slogan was replaced with “To punish and enslave” and, instead of telling people to dial 911 for emergencies, the car says “dial 411 for theater information.” Later, he added a bar of emergency lights, but these are not actual lights and their only use is to make the car look more police-like.

So, what do you think, besides the coolness of the car, is it such a good idea to allow people to paint their cars like police ones? I mean, ok, the police doesn’t have Mustangs, but who knows exactly what cars the police has?

Lewis Hamilton

McLaren F1 driver, Lewis Hamilton, was caught speeding on a highway in France. The 22 year old British driver was caught doing 122 mph (196km/h), that’s 37 mph more than the legal speed limit in France, which is 80 mph (130km/h). Hamilton had his Mercedes town away, got a one month ban from France, plus he had to pay a 600 euro (£430) fine. However, the French policemen told the press that Lewis was “co-operative and courteous”.

Caparo T1 Super Police Car

I don’t know how you’d react if you say this in your rearview mirrors, with the sirens turned on, but I would be scared. Especially when you know thing in the mirror are closer than they appear. This is the Caparo T1 super police car concept, developed by Caparo and UK’s Met Police and which will be presented at next week’s MPH ‘07 Show in London. , capable of traveling at 200mph. Don’t sweat just yet. This Caparo T1 decked in police livery is just a concept vehicle developed by the UK’s Met Police and Caparo for the MPH ’07 show set for this weekend in London.

Called the Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV), the concept is the closest thing to a road legal Formula One car, because it features a 3.5L V8 engine developing 575bhp (425kW) at 10,500rpm and 420Nm (310lbft) of torque at 9,000rpm. The car goes from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in less than 2.5 seconds, reaches 100mph in less than 5 seconds and goes all the way up to a top speed of 200 mph. So all you speed freaks in the UK, watch out, because I don’t think you can top that, cause even the world’s fastest taxi can’t top this car.

People of Rockford, Illinois, turn down that music!

Loud Music Ordinance

If you live in Rockford, Illinois, and like to drive around with your music loud, you might end up having some serious problems. Because on August 20 the city adopted an ordinance, under which the police can seize your car if it gets reports that your playing music too loud. And this will cost you some serious money: you’ll have to pay fees of $150 to $750 are paid, a $75 towing fee, $15 to $20 per day storage fee and a $60 per hour charge if the tow truck moves slow and the police officer has to wait for it more than an hour.

And with all the bureaucracy, this could cost you as much as $1,100. And if you don’t get the police’s mail or you can’t pay the fees in 30 days, your car will be confiscated permanently. And the nasty part is that you can get in this mess if someone merely accuses you of playing loud music, because “hearsay evidence shall be admissible”. So, look out!

New system to stop drivers using cellphones

Driver Cellphone

Cellular Detection System from Highway Safety & Technology (HST) came up with a new system to help the police identifying those who use cellphones while driving. The system works like the regular speed radars, it is either mobile or fixed and it detects when a phone is used in the car and a photo is taken automatically.

Now I’m not saying that’s a bad idea, on the contrary, it’s only for the best, because drivers using cellphone are the cause of more and more accidents these days. But the system sucks. I mean, what happens when a passenger and not the driver is using the phone or the driver uses a headset? So the police should really invest time and money into either coming up with a good system, either taking care of the real problems out there.
