RMC Scorpion hydrogen supercar

RMC Scorpion Hydrogen

The car you see pictured here is the RMC Scorpion supercar, created by Ronn Motor Company. What really interesting about this car is that it uses a revolutionary gas fuel injection system that mixes hydrogen with petrol and injects it into the air-intake manifold. The hydrogen comes from the water stored into an on-board 1.5 gallon tank. This means better performance and less fuel consumption. Ronn Motor Company has announced two versions of the Scorpion, one powered by a 300 hp 3.5 liter Honda V6 returning 40 mpg and the other one powered by a twin-turbocharged HX version of the same engine, which delivers 450 hp, goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and goes over 200 mph.

The RMC Scorpion will be available next year, in a 200 units limited run and pricing will start at £95,000 ($140,500) for the standard version and £160,000 (around $237,000) for the HX version. Pretty expensive, but Ronn Motor Company also announced that the fuel injection system, called ‘H2GO’ will also be available as an aftermarket kit for any car and, for around £600 ($900) they say you’ll get a 25 per cent improved fuel economy.

Ronn Scorpion hydrogen-hybrid to debut at SEMA

Ronn Scorpion

Ronn Motor Company (RMC) is a Texas based company that is currently working on a very interesting car. Called Scorpion, this is a hydrogen-hybrid supercar that is meant to offer both performance and fuel economy. The car will be built by RMC in cooperation with hot-rod specialists Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters which will be responsible for most of the car’s construction, including its composite body and aluminum chassis.

RMC claims that the car will be able to deliver fuel economy ratings better than 40mpg. Like we said, this is not a hydrogen car, but a hydrogen-hybrid, which means that it will still use a traditional petrol engine, which has been converted to run on a mix of hydrogen and petrol, in a way similar to BMW’s Hydrogen7. The engine used is a 3.5 liter V6 from Honda, mated to a six-speed manual transmission (with an automatic one coming next year). However, what I really find interesting is the way the hydrogen is created. The RMC engineers designed an on-board hydrogen system which uses power from the car’s alternator to fracture water molecules drawn from a small on board water tank. This way, you get your hydrogen without having to store the volatile fuel or stop at hydrogen fueling stations. That’s cool, because actually, all you need is water and regular petrol. Besides that, the car emits only small quantities of CO2 and very little NOx (oxides of nitrogen).

The Ronn Scorpion production has already started, but the official unveiling will take place at this year’s SEMA Show in Vegas, in November and the company announced that sales will start in the United States by the end of this year.

Morgan LIFECar

Announced at last year’s edition of the show, the Morgan LIFECar will officially pe unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, which starts March 4. The LIFECar is one amazing vehicle, which, if it’ll go into production, will definitely have our respect. Now, closer to its debut, a lot of photos showed up on the Internet, which show the LIFECar as a classy coupe, keeping Morgan heritage.

But what’ really awesome are the technologies used to power this car. In cooperation with QinetiQ, Cranfield and Oxford universities, BOC and OSCar, Morgan managed to create an ultra quiet, hydrogen powered car, whos exhaust system will produce only water vapour thanks to its fuel cell converting hydrogen into electricity. The total cost of the project will be £ 1.9 million but we sure think it’ll worth it.

See a complete photo gallery of the Morgan LIFECar after the jump.

Honda FCX Hydrogen Concept

At the Tokyo Motor Show opening, Honda’s President and CEO, Takeo Fukui, announced that Honda will be one of the first carmakers in the world to launch a production hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. The car will be a production version of the FCX Concept and it will be introduced at next month’s LA Show and is scheduled to go on sale sometime next year, probably towards the end of the year.

The FCX Concept is powered by electricity generated by combining hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell stack, and electricity stored in its lithium-ion battery pack to power the vehicle’s electric motor.
