The 2010 Chevy Camaro, only one month away

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Sales

This morning we showed you the official photo of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro released yesterday by GM. Meanwhile, we found out that GM dealers will start taking orders for the Camaro and for the Camaro SS next month. Yup, that’s right, the Camaro is only one month away so you’d better have that deposit ready, because it trully is a remarkable car.

Though production will start in February 2009 and the first customers will get their cars in March, Chevrolet Spokesman Terry Rhadigan said: “We think there could be pent-up demand [..] The advice is to get to your Chevy dealer sooner than later.” He noted that buyers “may have to put a deposit down” to get in line for the Camaro, but that requirement is completely up to Chevrolet dealers. The V6 Camaro pricing will start in the low $20,000, while the Camaro SS is expected to be priced around $30,000.

New render and details on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Chevrolet Camaro SS

Recently General Motors have put on their site the first official render and performance data of their top-spec SS (standing for Super Sport) version of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. And this version really deserves the Super Sport badge, being powered by a 6.2 litre V8 which comes with a choice of either manual or automatic transmission, both with 6 speeds.

Here start the differences, if you opt for the manual transmission, you’ll be getting the 6.2 litre V8 LS3 engine which can deliver up to 422 hp with 553 Nm of torque (or 408 lb.-ft.). Instead, if you choose an automatic gearbox, you’ll be gettin the 6.2 litre V8 L99 engine, which has, besides the standard LS3, GM’s Active Fuel Management system, which enables the engine to run only 4 cylinders on normal driving conditions, like in the city. This engine is capable of 400 hp and 535 Nm (395 lb.-ft.) of torque. Coupled with the automatic transmission, the SS will achieve an average of 23 mpg or 10.2 l/100km.

Chevrolet Camaro to debut before mid-September

Chevrolet Camaro debut

The Chevrolet Camaro is closer and closer to finally making its debut. Though everyone was expecting the car’s official launch to take place next year, in January, at the Detroit Auto Show, it seems that GM is not willing to wait until then and will present the Camaro much earlier. Here’s what we have so far.

First, we thought that the launch will take place at the Indy ‘08, Back at the Brickyard event from September 19-21, because the organizers of the event, Central Indiana Camaro Club (CICC) has confirmed the production Camaro will be on show at the event and in a number of different color, trim and engine combos. However, they said it will be there, not that it will debut there. Because, questioned by the guys from Autoblog, GM told them the debut will take place before the Indy event, at a date and a place to be announced.

So, where do you think the new Chevrolet Camaro will make its debut?

Accessorized Chevrolet Camaro Prototype

Last week we’ve shown you an official GM video from the Accesories Design Studio in Auburn Hills, Michigan, in which Larry Sully talked about GM vehicles customization and gave us a sneak peak of the upcoming Camaro accessories range. Now we have something way cooler, the accessorized Camaro prototype without any camo or coverings. The images showed up on the Camaro5 forums and shows the prototype’s full bodykit including spoilers, a retro-style fuel cap, a different grille, striped decals and of course, new sets of alloys. What can we say…it looks hot!

Check out more photos of the accessorized Chevrolet Camaro after the jump.

GM considering 4-cylinder engine for the new Camaro

Chevrolet Camaro

Speaking at the New York Auto Show, GM’s Vice Chairman Bob Lutz announced that, as a response to the raising gas prices, General Motors is considering adding a 4-cylinder engine for the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro. The engine he’s talking about is the 260 hp 2.0 liter turbocharge unit that is currently powering the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky roadster.

When sales will start, the Camaro will be offered with V6 and V8 powerplants and though no extra details were made available, Automotive News reports that the V6 unit used will be the 3.6 liter four-cam that currently powers the Cadillac CTS, but Bob Lutz mentioned that it will develop 260 hp (comparing to the 304 hp developed be the CTS). Also, GM plans to position both the V6 and V8 versions of the Camaro as premium cars compared to the Camaro’s main competitor, the Ford Mustang. Here’s what Lutz said: “We have a very sophisticated suspension system and, frankly, a much nicer interior. We are not going to try and match the Mustang on price. We are going to be premium-priced compared to the Mustang”. The V6 Mustang pricing starts from $20,235, while the V8 GT coupe begins at $26,825, shipping included.

So, a very interesting turn in GM’s strategy, due to the raising gas prices. And while we’re at this part, let’s have some fun and take a look at some comics about the gas prices (click here).

Rumors say the Camaro project might be cancelled, GM releases undisguised photos

Chevrolet Camaro Prototype

In this winter holiday, some pretty interesting things happened, related to the Chevrolet Camaro project. First, we received an e-mail from one of our readers, a worker for Auto Warehousing Canada, the company processing GM vehicles in Canada, telling us that people over there are talking about the Camaro project not happening. And he also said that, usually, when these rumors show up, they’re usually true. Another fact he points out is that usually, prototypes show up in the plant, but so far, nothing. I repeat, this is just a rumor, sent to us by one of our readers.

On the other hand, a couple of days ago, GM released a photo of a Chevrolette Camaro, without any camouflage, and also announced that, from now on, all pre-production Camaro wil be tested undisguised. So, a really interesting situation.

Spied: Chevrolet Camaro with light camouflage

Chevrolet Camaro Concept

This photo was posted on the Camaro5.com forums and shows a Chevrolet Camaro prototype barely disguised. Even though the photo’s quality is not great, we can get a pretty good idea and see that the prototype is actually pretty similar to the concept. Judging by what we see, especially that B-pillar that wasn’t on the concept, those sleek side mirrors and nice wheels, I guess it’s safe to say that what we have here is the production ready Camaro. Really nice!

After the jump, you can see a photo gallery of the Camaro Concept.

Chevrolet Camaro

We’ve got some really interesting rumors for all of you that fell in love with the Chevy Camaro concept, including me. Word on the streets is that Chevrolet will start production on February 16th, 2009 and the first Camaros will hit showrooms in December, 2009. I’m not too happy, because there’s more than a year until we’ll get to see exactly how the production version will look like and Chevrolet would better not disappoint us.
