It turns out that being a highway patrol officer is not the safest job in the world. We’ve seen a lot of videos where cops get shot at, insulted and God knows what other stuff. This video shows an officer which, while pulling over a truck, proves to have some amazing reflexes and jump a out of the way a driver that lost control of his car. Pretty amazing stuff!

While surfing the web today, I stumbled across this really cool created ad. There’s nothing I hate more than a drunk driver. See what happends with the car on the beer cap? This is what will probably happen for real to your car if you drink and drive. And of course, this could also mean innocent people might get hurt. Anyways, as I said, really interesting ad and remember: “Don’t drink and drive!”

The Russian luxury car market is growing by leaps and bounds, a lot of wealthy people there want to indulge their taste for luxury and buy expensive cars. Unfortunately some of the drivers can’t really handle the power of these cars. Such was the case with the driver of this Bentley Continental GT, who plowed the car on a nearby field, taking out two wooden posts and ending up nearby a set of train rails. Team Penske’s transporter suffered disaster when their transporter truck caught fire on Interstate 80, west of Cheyenne, Wyo. The two drivers were unharmed, but the lower level of the transporter, containing crewmember uniforms and a variety of equipment was destroyed. A team spokesman said the No. 3 and No. 6 Dallara-Hondas that were on the upper level of the transporter had extensive water, smoke and heat damage. The fire started on the right side of the transporter, possibly from a wheel bearing failure. It was put out by a local fire department, but the transporter will remain in Wyoming for further inspection and assessment of the damage.

Cindric estimated the damage to be “a couple million bucks.” Specially outfitted transporters used by Indy-car teams cost about $400,000 with the cars worth at least $500,000 each. The incident is the team’s second major disaster in three years. In 2006, the team’s IndyCar headquarters, then in Reading, Pa., suffered major losses in flood damage. But the team responded by winning the next race, at Kansas Speedway. “We seem to always perform in these circumstances,” Castroneves said.

Sure, the high gas prices have really taken a toll on people around the world, they started traveling less or have started practicing some really weird methods to drop the fuel prices. But according to the NHTSA, there might be a positive aspect to the high prices, their statistics show that the number of people killed in car accidents has dropped with about 1,600 as opposed to the last year, and was the lowest in the last 10 years.

If until now, american drivers were more agressive, they addopted more economical and calmer driving methods, only to improve the fuel efficiency, and as a secondary result, the number of accidents has decreased. This was also reflected in the number of injuries from these accidents, from 2.58 million in 2006 to 2.48 million last year, numbers that will continue to drop, according to the NHTSA.

We’ve already seen a lot of exotic car crashes, almost all of them caused by irresponsible owners which don’t know how to handle the power of their cars. But this crash is a bit special, because we’re not talking about the owner of the car, but about a regular person which asked Audi to give him the €160,000 supercar, the R8 for a test drive. Although he met the standards of a test drive with a car this powerful, the 33-year old man from the Netherlands, lost control while he was driving near a river and crashed the car into it.

Police aren’t disclosing the name of the unlucky driver, and believe that he was driving at about 130 km/h (80 mph), although witnesses say that he was driving a lot faster, about 200 km/h or 125 mph, a lot above the limit on that road of 80 km/h (50 mph). Speed isn’t the only thing police are taking intro consideration, because the road was a bit bumpy, and one of these bumps could have caused the speeding driver to loose control of the 420 hp car. Still, if you want to test drive a car with lots of power, you really should check your speed and the road conditions, or you might end up like this poor fellow.

We have no idea how this beautiful Ferrari Testarossa ended up like this, but anyway you look at it, it still breaks our hearts to see the car like this (remember the spanish one?). All we know is that this happened in The Hague, Netherlands and there were no serious injuries (except for the car’s). Check out one more photo after the jump.

What you can see in the video below is a BMW Sauber F1 mechanic which got a taste of the experimental Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) used during some tests of the F1 team. When Christian Klien pulled into the pits, one of the mechanics touched the car and received an electric shock that put him to ground. Fortunately, he was ok and didn’t sustain and serious injuries, after a short medical check being allowed to return to the pits.

One of the BMW Sauber spokesmans said: “During testing of the KERS car at the Jerez track this morning, there was an incident involving a mechanic […] When the car returned to the pits, he touched it and suffered an electric shock. He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm.”

What would you do if on your cash note you see this: one limited edition Corvette and one terrace restaurant? Especially if the car is not yours, but is rented from Hertz. Probably when they’ve ordered 500 Corvette-ZHZ, limited edition, dedicated exclusively to the well-known car rental companies, they never imagined this. One of the customers lost control of the 436 hp Corvette at Lemmon Avenue in Dallas and slammed it onto the sidewall of the La Madeleine restaurant. I think the driver loved the restaurant so much, that he parked the Corvette directly in the restaurant’s sidewall, which led to this damages with unknown values yet.

It must have been one cold frappe or a Mojito, or…who knows…one Guiness Draught, that made him do such a thing?

We all know that Michael Schumacher (one the best F1 pilots ever) helped Ferrari several times develop new cars. His experience was very useful to the Ferrari engineers, that made better cars from the Enzo, 599 GTB or the recent California. Last week Ferrari had exclusively reserved the Nürburgring for testing of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia prototype, and our spy photographer on the scene noticed it was Michael Schumacher driving. However, the Ferrari-Schumi cooperation didn’t go well every time. For example, last week, he was testing a Ferrari F430 Scuderia on the Nurburgring track (exclusively reserved for Ferrari for these tests), when Michael lost control of the car at about 250 km/h (155 mph) and the car struck a guardrail causing pretty important damage. Apparently, his co-driver was his son, Mick.

Schumacher’s spokeswoman Sabine Kehm said: “Michael called me and said ‘We have crashed the car but are going to continue with another one”.

The crash you see in these photos happened sometime during the morning of July 15th, somewhere in Qatar. By looking at what was left of the Mercedes SLR, we can tell that the car was travelling at very high speeds. And, as you’d expect, the 22 year old driver instantly died. We don’t have any other details so far, so we don’t know if the driver lost control of the car or it had some mechanical problems. All we know is that this accident really is terrifying and shows, once again, that supercars might be really really cool, but they’re definitely dangerous.

A judge in Clearwater, Florida sentenced 17 year old Nick Bollea, Hulk Hogan’s son, to eight months in jail for reckless driving. He will be on five years’ probation and lose his driving privileges for three years.

Last August, Nick Bollea was involved in a very serious car accident. Authorities determined that Hogan jr. was racing a friend in his yellow Toyota Supra, when lost control in a curve and slammed into a palm tree. The impact left on of his friends critically injured and in need of lifetime medical care.

Yesterday, in the practice day at Indianapolis 500, Andretti Green Racing’s Danica Patrick was involved in a very nasty accident at the pit stops. While getting back to the pits, she ran into Dale Coyne Racing’s chief mechanic, Charles Buckman. The accident wasn’t Patick’s fault, as Buckman was talking with someone from the Andretti team and wasn’t aware that she was about to enter pits. He was taken immediately to the hospital, after suffering scalp and facial cuts and a concussion.

After everything was alright, Buckam said: “I really don’t remember how it happened. All I remember was talking with someone on Marco Andretti’s team and then everything is blank from that point. I will be OK and hopefully back to work in a day or two.”

The day was full of incidents. Besides Danica Patrick’s one, Alex Lloyd, driving for Rahal Letterman Racing ran high into a turn and lost control, doing a quarter-spin up into the barrier. The car was heavily damaged and Lloyd complained of neck pain, but after being examined at the track’s hospital, doctors said everything alright with him.

Rookie Mario Dominguez was also involved in a minor crash but after a short medical exam was cleared to drive.

We all know Jerry Seinfeld and love him, especially for the popular “Seinfeld” TV series. And we also know he’s a car fanatic, with a large collection of cars, of which his favorite is a 1955 Porsche Spyder. However, on Saturday evening, while he was driving alone in his classic 1967 Fiat BTM, his brakes stopped working and, after he tried to stop the car by using the emergency brake, he tried to avoid an upcoming intersection and lost control of the car, which flipped over.

East Hampton Town Police Chief Todd Sarris told the press that, by flipping the car, Seinfeld avoided a very serious accident, because it all took place only a few yards away from the highway. Also, because the accident was caused by a mechanical failure, no summonses were issued.

Seinfeld walked away unharmed, but, as his wife Jessica told the New York Post, “he was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened”. We’re glad that he’s ok, but he’d better look out next time, because, even though these classic cars are beautiful, their technology is pretty old and next time he might not get that lucky.
