Audi recently announced that the entry-level Audi A5 will get a new engine. The current 1.8 liter TFSI will be replaced by a 2.0 liter TFSI engine developing 178 hp. Besides the extra power, the new engine develops more torque, 236lb-ft (320Nm) (52lb-ft (70Nm) to more than the 1.8 liter), has a 7.5% improved fuel economy and produces 9% less CO2 emissions. The engine is derived from the 208 hp 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine and features Audi’s improved valveshift technology.

Equipped with the 2.0 litre TFSI engine, the Audi A5 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.8 seconds (0.6 seconds faster) and reaches a top speed of 238 km/h (148 mph).

The Audi A5 is definitely in my top 5 cars, because it’s simply an awesome car. And here’s a tuning program for the 3.0-litre V6 TDI version, developed by the German tuner MTM, dubbed ‘Thunderbolt’. The V6’s power output was increased from 240 hp to 300 hp and the MTM A5 sprints from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.9 seconds, while the top speed is 165 mph (265 km/h). The power increase comes from an optimized engine map, with the help of a 3D software, while handling is improved by using a perfectly tuned coilover suspension and 8-piston fixed calipers and 380×34mm semi-perforated brake discs.

MTM also created a body kit for the A5, featuring an S5 radiator grille, a rear lower bumper portion combines with 4-pipe rear muffler and 21 inch MTM “bimoto” wheels, that come in Shiny Silver, Titanium and Diamond Cut finishes.

The BMW 3 Series and the Audi A5 are two of our favorite cars and don’t ask us which one we prefer, because we change our minds every 15 minutes. Both cars are fascinating. And here’s a car we’ve been expecting ever since we knew about the A5: the Audi A5 Cabrio. Spotted by AutoExpress spies close to Audi’s headquarters in Germany, the car has some pretty heavy camouflage on it, so we can’t really tell what are the styling mods it got.

However, what we do know is that the car, which will probably debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, will go on sale next year, with the first deliveries in UK scheduled for November and at a starting price of £33,000 (47,400 EUR or $67,250). It won’t have a folding metal roof, but, as Audi got us used, a fabric one which, besides reducing costs, will make the A5 Cabrio a more practical car, with a lot of luggage space.

The Audi A5 Cabrio will be offered with the same engine choices as the Coupe: a 3.2 liter V6 petrol and two diesels, a 2.7 liter and a 3.0 liter TDI. The top of the line model will be the S5 Cabrio, powered by a 4.2-litre V8 and quattro four-wheel drive system.
