On Friday, Audi USA announced the pricings for the new Audi A4, both Sedan and Avant versions. The starting MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) for the 2009 Audi A4 Sedan will be $32,700, while the 2009 Audi A4 Avant will start at a MSRP of $34,500. The sedan buyers will be able to choose between a 211 hp 2.0 TFSI and a 265 hp 3.2-liter FSI V6, both petrol engines and both with quattro all-wheel-drive system (front wheel drive will only be available on the 2.0 TFSI). The Avant will only come with a 2.0 TFSI engine and the quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Audi will begin delivery of customer orders in September 2008, but some dealers will have vehicles available for test drives as early as the week of August 10th.

* Engines at launch (UK): 1.8 TFSI 160PS, 3.2 FSI 265PS, 2.0 TDI 143PS, 2.7 TDI 190PS, 3.0 TDI 240PS
* New sports chassis with repositioned front axle, all new steering and latest generation quattro system with 40:60 torque split
* Longest wheelbase in the class giving reduced overhangs for optimised weight distribution and exceptional interior space
* Advanced features including Audi Drive Select enabling tailoring of throttle, steering and suspension characteristics to suit driver preferences

It looks like Audi will be presenting a new generation of Audi A4 at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, with sales starting at the beginning of 2007. This latest renderings shows that the new A4 will look like the recently launched A5, picking up the same shaped headlights and bonnet.

Another thing the upcoming Audi A4 will have in common with the A5 is its mechanicals, including engines and transmissions. Handling and dynamics will be a major improvement over the current model because of the positioning of the engine behind the front axle.

Audi will also offer AWD quattro models, including the top RS4 model, which will most likely be introduced in 2009. Powered by Audi’s 4.2L V8 engine, the new RS4 is expected to develop more than the current 420hp output, considering that the Mercedes C63 AMG more than 450hp and we expect Audi to better this.
