Hmmm… not bad, but what’s a mecha with out earth destroying abilities? I can wait till my grandchildren take me for a cruise in this thing.

Running on pollutants? Not in this universe, it’s thermodynamically impossible to use pollutants to power a car. Unless those pollutants are the components of gasoline(or some other equally volatile compounds) and HIGHLY, HIGHLY concentrated in the atmosphere. However, there is no way in the universe to obtain (chemical)energy from CO2 in the atmosphere.

I guess these guys are seeing too much sci-fi movies.

Thermo:
Your assumption that it runs on CO2 seems pretty dumb, considering it was not mentioned in the article, and is not commonly considered a pollutant. Furthermore, to think that CO2 cannot produce energy is also incorrect (think photosynthesis.) So by your logic, plants are ‘thermodynamically impossible’ right? CO2 alone would of course not fuel a car, just as gasoline alone won’t. It uses oxygen to burn, and with modern engines, and future pollution, you can’t take it for granted.

Richard Bandler long held that before his death, that someone would have found a way to clean the pollution out of the air and sell it. Looks like we are one step closer. Despite this being more fanciful than even their concept car, It is great to see progress in this direction.

Please go learn, experiment and don’t take science as gospel. What we ‘know’ is often just be where we got tired of debating it. Challenge those who came before you, but respect them. We have come along way baby.

Good point, Rational Man

In the year 2057, people will still be driving naturally aspirated vehicles with fossil fuel-powered internal combustion engines.

Well, maybe not, but it’s more likely than the idea presented by Toyota.

Looks like it was drawn like a little kid.
The idea is the stupidest ever made.
Its like people in 1950 predicting flying cars and robots cooking our food, and jetpacks…

Hmm, lets see how that turned out….

Jetpacks….60 seconds of flight, might burn your ass and legs, and it wont get you to the moon.

Flying Cars….Not like the ones in blade runner….o wait…wasnt that supposed to be year 2019….hmm i doubt technology will progress that far….

And the robots…well i still gotta cook my own food, aibo is a mechanical idiot that can barely walk, and ai is still pathetic…

Laser wheel ?
Yeah right…

Nano technology resizing the cabin…yeah right sounds like a deathtrap that will crush you to death on a malfunction…

Good ideas

In response to Rational Man:

Photosynthesis requires energy, which it gets from the sun. It doesn’t produce energy.

And while science isn’t gospel, it’s consistently been correct more times than, well, gospel. Also - concept cars are not science. That’s why they can get away with fanciful ideas like “nano-laser wheels”.

Shdwsclan brings up valid points. The Toyota designers have drawn some pretty pictures here but they’re about as viable as colonising Pluto.

I just can’t get passed the fact that I will be in my 70’s when this thing comes out. I’ll be lucky if I can use a walker, much less drive this car.

Humanity hasn’t been able to progress much because of the Oil industry and because of some political influence . Energy is still controlled by the few, and they will stop anyone that is a threat to their billion dollar industry. I looked into the history of alternative fuels and free energy. Times are changing fast and global warming has brought a new perspective to the issue’s of the earth. Soon there will be a new age where humanity is not held back by the corrupted. Yes i do believe that this Mecha concept is totally possible, by 2057. Nano tech is quickly progressing and will make the impossible, possible.
